Job Summary:

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) is directly responsible for developing and executing the internal operational strategies necessary to achieve the goals and objectives of Green Growth Africa. The COO will ensure the internal daily planning, implementation, management and oversight of the organisation, and reports to the Executive Director.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

In addition to the requirements listed below, regular attendance in the workplace is an essential function of this position and must comply with policies, procedures and ethical conduct at all times.

  • Provides day-to-day operational leadership and support to staff that mirrors the mission including planning, formulating and achieving  short- and long-term goals
  • Sources for grant and partnership opportunities, develops and manages partnerships and grants
  • Manages programme development, resourcing, implementation and reporting including Programme Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (PMEL)
  • Responsible for overseeing budgets, financial reporting, and fiscal accountability, including monitoring and improvement of financial goals
  • Develops, manages, executes, and improves strategic plan for the organisation and has ongoing strategic conversations and collaboration to the Executive Director with regular data and reporting.

  • Outstanding leadership ability, strong problem-solving skills, interpersonal and coordination skills, emotional intelligence, confidence, and executive presence for sound decisions, logical interpretations
  • Operates with proficiency in a variety of office equipment including an office computer, a variety of word processing, spreadsheets, analytical and data management, project management software and applications as well as some graphic and presentation programmes.
  • Strong skill set in prioritising, strategising, meeting deadlines and following up on assignments and roles and responsibilities with minimum supervision.
  • Successful candidate will be creative, visionary, proactive, highly dynamic, versatile, organised, a team builder, at home with computing, and interested in working on new challenges. The role is suited for those who are interested in the Leadership and Management career path, those who are interested in the development field, passionate about green growth, sustainability and non-profits.

Education and Experience: 

  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree or a master’s degree in business administration, finance, economics, or a closely related field which will provide knowledge of the principles, practices and administration of business and nonprofits.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of operations and leadership experience of full-time progressively complex and responsible related work experience directly involved with operations, business, development, finance or related areas. An NGO work-related environment is preferred.
