Job Description

Responsibilities

  • Assessment and monitoring: Conduct thorough assessments of pediatric patients to gather information about their medical history, current symptoms, vital signs, and overall health status. Monitoring patients’ conditions and responses to treatment, and promptly reporting any changes or concerns to the healthcare team.
  • Administering treatments and medications: Administering medications, intravenous fluids, and other treatments as prescribed by physicians. Ensuring accurate dosages and proper administration techniques, and monitoring patients for any adverse reactions or side effects.
  • Providing patient education: educating patients and their families about pediatric health conditions, treatment options, medication management, and preventive care practices. Providing instructions on home care, diet, exercise, and safety measures to promote optimal health and well-being.
  • Supporting patients and families: offering emotional support, comfort, and reassurance to pediatric patients and their families during hospitalization, procedures, and medical treatments. Helping families cope with the stress and anxiety associated with pediatric illness or injury.
  • Collaborating with the healthcare team: Collaborating with physicians, nurse practitioners, therapists, social workers, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement comprehensive care plans for pediatric patients. Participating in interdisciplinary rounds, meetings, and consultations to coordinate patient care and ensure continuity of care.
  • Advocating for patients: advocating for the needs and rights of pediatric patients, including ensuring access to appropriate healthcare services, advocating for timely interventions, and addressing any concerns or barriers to care.
  • Performing procedures: Performing pediatric procedures such as venipuncture, intravenous catheter insertion, urinary catheterization, wound care, and nasogastric tube insertion. Ensuring procedures are performed safely, efficiently, and with minimal discomfort to the patient.
  • Promoting health and wellness: Promoting pediatric health and wellness through preventive care measures such as immunizations, health screenings, and health education initiatives. Encouraging healthy lifestyle habits and disease prevention strategies to reduce the risk of illness and injury in pediatric patients.
  • Maintaining documentation: accurately documenting patient assessments, interventions, treatments, and outcomes in medical records. Ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, hospital policies, and legal requirements for documentation and recordkeeping.
  • Continuing education: engaging in ongoing professional development, continuing education, and training to stay current with advances in pediatric nursing practice, evidence-based guidelines, and best practices in pediatric care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree qualification
  • Applicants must have at least 2 years of post-NYSC work experience as a pediatric nurse.
  • Applicants must be very fluent in the English language, confident, and able to write and express themselves articulately.
  • Applicants must be patient-friendly and have client-care etiquette.
  • Must reside in Lagos.
