Prenatal care: providing comprehensive prenatal care to pregnant women, including conducting initial assessments, monitoring maternal and fetal health, performing routine screenings and diagnostic tests, and educating women about pregnancy, childbirth, and prenatal nutrition.
Labor and delivery care: managing labor and childbirth for low-risk pregnancies, including monitoring maternal and fetal vital signs, assessing progress during labor, providing pain management techniques (e.g., breathing exercises, relaxation techniques, epidurals), and assisting with labor and delivery.
Postpartum care: providing postpartum care to mothers and newborns, including assessing recovery from childbirth, monitoring for postpartum complications (e.g., hemorrhage, infection), providing breastfeeding support and assistance with newborn care, and addressing any concerns or questions the mother may have.
Family planning and contraception: offering counseling and education on family planning options and contraceptive methods, including prescribing and managing contraceptives such as birth control pills, patches, injections, and intrauterine devices (IUDs).
Gynecological care: providing routine gynecological care and screenings for women throughout the lifespan, including pelvic exams, Pap smears, breast exams, and screening for sexually transmitted infections (STIs).
Reproductive health counseling: offering counseling and education on reproductive health topics such as menstrual cycle regulation, fertility awareness, sexually transmitted infections (STIs), and menopause management.
Collaboration and referral: Collaborating with obstetricians, gynecologists, pediatricians, and other healthcare providers to coordinate care for women and newborns, including making referrals for specialized care when necessary.
Health promotion and education: Promoting women’s health and well-being through health education initiatives, including teaching childbirth education classes, facilitating support groups, and providing information on healthy lifestyle choices and preventive healthcare measures.
Cultural competence and advocacy: providing culturally sensitive care that respects the diversity of women’s backgrounds, beliefs, and values. Advocating for women’s rights, autonomy, and informed decision-making in healthcare.
Continuing education and professional development: engaging in ongoing professional development, continuing education, and training to stay current with advances in midwifery practice, evidence-based guidelines, and best practices in women’s healthcare.
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree qualification
Applicants must have at least 2 years post-NYSC work experience as a nurse midwife.
Applicants must be very fluent in the English language, confident, and able to write and express themselves articulately.
Applicants must be patient-friendly and have client-care etiquette.
