A Database Management Officer is a specialized IT professional responsible for overseeing the entire lifecycle of databases within an organization, from design and development to maintenance and optimization.
The role requires a strong understanding of database systems, security practices, and collaboration with other IT teams to ensure the reliability and efficiency of the organization’s data infrastructure.
Responsibilities
Installation, configuration, and upgrading of DBMS database management system e.g. Oracle, MSSQL, Maria and MYSQL server software and related products.
Perform timely database backup and recovery in line with procedures and policy to achieve overall banks’ objective of business continuity.
Implement and maintain database security (create and maintain users and roles, assign privileges) in line with banks procedures and Policies.
Make exception reports on database-related issues.
Perform database tuning and performance monitoring in line with policies and procedures.
Set up and maintain documentation and standards.
Perform general technical troubleshooting and give consultation to development teams.
Maintain 100% uptime of all databases hosting various applications been maintained by the bank
Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with high availability.
Improvement and maintenance of the databases such as rollout and upgrades
Perform fault diagnosis, troubleshoot, and correct problems that occur within the operational database
Document, develop, test, and implement updates to operational databases.
Recommends system enhancements to maximize application efficiency.
Support the core banking application.
Database Management, ensuring data integrity and database uptime.
Requirements
BSc in Computer Science, Engineering, or any related course of study
Minimum of 3 – 6 years of experience with a financial institution
