Job Description

Position Overview: The Head of School / Principal is a senior leadership position responsible for the overall management and administration of the college, a co-educational secondary school in Ile-Ife, Osun State. The Head of School will provide strategic leadership, foster an environment of academic excellence, oversee staff development, ensure effective communication and marketing, and manage the overall well-being of students and staff.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership and Vision:

Develop and communicate a clear vision and mission for the school’s educational and cultural development. Provide strategic direction and inspire a culture of continuous improvement among staff, students, and stakeholders. Foster a positive and collaborative school climate that promotes innovation and student success.

2. Academic Excellence:

Oversee the development and implementation of a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum aligned with national and international standards. Monitor and evaluate the quality of teaching and learning to ensure academic excellence and student achievement. Implement effective assessment and evaluation practices to measure student progress.

3. Pastoral Care:

Create a supportive and inclusive school environment that promotes the social, emotional, and mental well-being of students. Implement effective pastoral care programs to address student needs and concerns. Collaborate with staff and parents to ensure a safe and nurturing learning environment.

4. Staff Professional Development:

Provide leadership and support for the professional growth and development of teaching and non-teaching staff. Coordinate and facilitate professional development workshops, seminars, and training opportunities. Encourage innovation and best practices in teaching and school management.

5. Communication and Marketing:

Develop and execute strategies to effectively communicate with parents, students, staff, and the broader community. Oversee marketing initiatives to promote the school’s strengths, achievements, and programs. Maintain a strong online and offline presence to engage stakeholders and attract prospective students.

6. General Administration:

Manage the day-to-day operations of the school, including budgeting, financial management, and resource allocation. Ensure compliance with relevant educational regulations, policies, and standards. Maintain accurate and comprehensive records related to students, staff, and school activities.

7. Community Engagement:

Build and nurture positive relationships with parents, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Collaborate with external organizations and partners to enhance educational opportunities for students.

Qualifications and Experience:

  1. A Master’s degree in Education or a related field.
  2. Proven experience in educational leadership, preferably as a Principal or Head of School. Proven record as deputy head of school also acceptable.
  3. Strong understanding of curriculum development, pedagogical approaches, and educational best practices.
  4. Excellent communication, interpersonal, and conflict resolution skills.
  5. Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and develop a diverse team of educators and support staff.
  6. Knowledge of educational technology and its integration into teaching and learning.
  7. Familiarity with relevant educational regulations and standards.
